The city of Lakes, Udaipur is a lovely blend of water, lush green hills that set fire and passion in poet.

Its palaces are straight out of a fairy-tale book, lakes, temples, gardens and narrow lanes lines withdrawn with stalls, relives the reminisces of a heroic past, valor and chivalry. Their reflection in the placid waters of the Lake Pichhola is excitement that defies imagination.

Udiapur is the citadel of Mewar-a kingdom ruled by the Sisodia dynasty for 1200 Years. The foundation of the city has an interesting legend to go with it. According to it, Maharana Udai Singh, it's founder, was hunting one day when he came upon a holy man meditations on a hill overlooking the Lake Pichhola.

The hermit blessed the Maharana and directed him to build a palace at this spot which had a fertile valley watered by the stream, a lake, an agreeable altitude and an amphitheater of low mountains. Maharana following the divine advise founded the city in 1559 A.D.

Now the City palace stand with it's full glory overlooking the aquamarine expanses of the Lake Pichhola.

The walled city had eleven gates of which now only gates remain. The Suraj Pol the original or Sun Gate on the eastern side is the main entrance to the city.
Lake Palace

In the state of vast stretches of sand is situated Udaipur, with enchanting lakes and lush greenery. This places oozes with beauty and is a symbol of romance, the most appealing place for poets, painters, travelers and writers. This fascinating capital of Mewar is surrounded by hills and is situated on the edge of three lakes. This city full of enchanting tales has a remarkable past, with episodes of heroism and splendor. This mesmerizing place is lived by narrow streets with coloured stalls, gardens, temples and palaces. Udaipur which means the city of Dawn, the beauty of this place is breath-taking.
City Palaces
A majestic architectural marvel towering over the lake on a hill surrounded by crenellated walls, it is a conglomeration of courtyards, pavilions, terraces, corridors, rooms and hanging gardens. The main entrance is through the triple arched gate,the 'Tripolia'with eight marble porticos. The Maharana were weighed under the gate in the gold, the equivalent amount of which was distributed among the populace. The museum in the palace articulates it's history and is an exquisite gallery of the arts of that time.
